His Majesty King Abdullah II, chaired a National Policies Council meeting attended by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Al Hussein Monday. His Majesty said that any person who is proven to have been negligent in protecting the lives of Jordanians, will be held accountable.

His Majesty added that it is unacceptable to lose any citizen as result of negligence.

"May God have mercy on our people who we lost in Salt," said King Abdullah.

His Majesty stressed the need for every employee, regardless of their position, to be responsible or make room for those who want to serve Jordan and its citizens.

His Majesty rejected talks from some people who indicated that Jordanian society is associated with negligence and corruption. His Majesty stressed that the culture of Jordanians is a culture of 'honor and dignity,' passed down from those who founded the Jordanian state.

His Majesty the King expressed his understanding of the difficulties facing Jordanians as a result of the pandemic, stressing that Jordan will overcome these exceptional circumstances including the economic situation, with God's help and a team spirit.

This statement was made in reference to the incident which occurred at Al-Hussein New Salt Hospital, wherein a technical defect resulted in oxygen shortages in the intensive care department. Although nine people were declared dead shortly after the incident, only seven were confirmed to have died from a lack of oxygen.

Amman's Attorney General, Hassan Al-Abdallat, said that the relevant authorities carried out an autopsy to determine the cause of death of the eighth individual, and it was found the individual died due to COVID-19 complications and not lack of oxygen.

However, sources have not mentioned what caused the death of the ninth person.
